Zhaoqing Temple is a Buddhist vinaya temple at No. 22 Zhaoqing Temple Lane, outside Qiantang Gate, Xihu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, and was formerly listed together with Jingci Temple, Lingyin Temple and Shengyin Temple as the four great monasteries of West Lake. The temple was first built in the fifth year of Qiande of the Northern Song (967), originally named Puti Yuan, and was changed to its present name during the Taiping Xingguo period; it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, and after reconstruction in the thirty-sixth year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing (1771) it had a mountain gate, Qinglian Pond (a life-release pond), Wanshan Bridge, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, the Wanshou Ordination Altar (inside which hung the imperially inscribed plaque 'Deep in Samadhi and Wisdom'), the Thousand Buddha Pavilion, the Sutra Library and Dingguan Hall; the temple grounds ran east to the Ancient New River (West Moat), west to Songmuchang River (present-day Baochu Road), south to West Lake and north to Qingji Pagoda. The original buildings were demolished one after another from the 1920s, and in June 1963 the site was rebuilt as the Hangzhou Children's Palace (now the Hangzhou Youth and Children's Activity Centre), so it is no longer used as a religious building. Today only the Mahavira Hall, rebuilt after a fire in 1929, survives; it is five bays wide with a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof, and new-style building materials such as concrete and marble were used in it.<
