The Takase River is a canal linking central Kyoto with Fushimi. Its name derives from the takase-bune boats used for water transport. The Takase River is at present divided in two by the Kamo River: the upstream part is called the Takase River and the downstream part the Higashi-Takase River or Shin-Takase River. The area around the Takase River between Sanjo and Shijo in central Kyoto is one of Kyoto's busy districts and is also a famous place for cherry blossoms.

The Horikawa is a river of the Yodo River system flowing through Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Because sewers and other facilities were improved after the Second World War, the river's flow all but disappeared, but in the Heisei era a project to restore the flow was carried out and the former scenery was brought back. The Horikawa today uses water from the Lake Biwa Canal.

Nishi Hongan-ji is the head temple of the Hongan-ji school of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism in Japan, located in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture. Its formal name is Ryukoku-zan Hongan-ji. The Hongan-ji school is the largest denomination of Jodo Shinshu and was founded by Shinran. Its first head temple was Otani Hongan-ji, built in 1272 (Bun'ei 9), and after several moves during periods of war, in 1591 (Tensho 19) the 11th monshu Kennyo, with the support of the regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi, moved the head temple to its present site. In 1592, after the 12th monshu Junnyo succeeded, a dispute over the succession arose within the order, and in 1602 the former heir Kyonyo, with the support of the daimyo Tokugawa Ieyasu, left the order and founded a separate Shin Buddhism head temple to the east of this temple, commonly known as Higashi Hongan-ji, creating an east-west rivalry. Local people therefore habitually called Ryukoku Hongan-ji the 'West Temple' (Onishi), and in time it became commonly known as Nishi Hongan-ji. The present abbot is Otani Kojun (dharma name Sennyo), the 25th monshu of the Hongan-ji school.<

Daitsu-ji is in Nishikujo Hieijo-cho, Minami Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, and is a temple of the Shingon school. Its formal name is Manzozan Hensho Shin-in Daitsu-ji.
